Do You Know The Beauty of the Day of Atonement?

The festival called the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26-32) is unique among the days God set before Israel to observe as holy days. The Day of Atonement, known as Yom Kippur, is considered the holiest day of the year in the Jewish faith. It falls in the Hebrew month of Tishrei, which is in September or October in the Gregorian calendar.

The Day of Atonement is a day of fasting, going without food and water, and deep self-examination before God. On this solemn day God accepts the sacrifices of the High Priest who enters the holiest part of the Temple. By that ritual God removed the sins from the nation. The record was wiped clean and a new beginning occurred.

Today, in the New Covenant enhancement of the day,

We look to Christ as our present High Priest before the throne of God in heaven. He mediates for us by His blood (Hebrews 9:11-15). Christ is the Mediator of the New Covenant assuring that all nations may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Observers of this solemn day also have an annual reminder that Satan’s deceptive power on mankind will only be broken by the intervention of Jesus Christ upon this world.

In conclusion, the Daily Bread email message sent on 7/20/2022 says,

Hebrews 4:16 – Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (NASB)

When we remember Christ’s role as our High Priest and Intercessor, and His sacrifice for us, we can draw nearer to God and receive mercy and grace. God’s annual festival, The Day Atonement, pictures the loving reconciliation all people can have with God’s grace through Christ’s sacrifice. The Day of Atonement also shows the remarkable truth that Satan’s deceptive power on mankind will only be broken by the intervention of Jesus Christ.

Pray, particularly in times of need, with thankfulness and confidence. Ask God to make you an instrument to alleviate suffering, hunger, and strife. Ask Him to guide you through doing your part of the commitment to the outcry, “Your Kingdom Come!” (Matthew 6:10)
