What Do You Know About the Apostle Philip?

The Bible does not teach us much about the Apostle Philip. In fact, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke don’t give us any details about Philip. All the verses about Philip appear in the Gospel of John.

Philip’s Calling Was Different

Normally God reaches people through people, but Philip was an exception to the rule. No one brought Philip to Jesus. Instead, Jesus came to him (John 1:43).

Philip may have been in charge of the supplies and food (John 6:5-7). He probably was practical, and always thinking about the bottom line.

Philip’s Fate

Philip wasn’t the first to have the most faith, but he was a follower of Jesus who was used by God. According to church history, Philip laid down his life for Christ. He was stoned to death after reaching many with the gospel.
