When was the last time you cried out to God for help?

It’s hard to ask for help. It’s hard to show weakness. Sometimes the show of weakness outweighs the need to reach out to God.

God is there, waiting on you.

Our God is ever-present. He waits for your prayer. Our Father wants to hear from you. In the midst of your troubles and struggles, it’s good to fall back on Him for support and comfort. As the hymn says “Take it to the Lord in Prayer,” and as Paul says “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

It’s okay to ask God for help.

King David, in the midst of anger and fear, prayed for God’s help. He knew God is right there, waiting to be invited into our struggles (Psalm 4:4, 5).

In conclusion, the Daily Bread email message sent on 7/13/2022 says,

Psalm 4:4, 5 – Tremble, and do not sin; meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.
                         Selah.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the LORD.  (NASB)

When singing Psalm 4, verses 4 and 5, the word “tremble” refers to trembling with anger or fear. The phrase “and do not sin” could be translated as “or do not sin.” The Greek word “meditate” could be translated as “speak.” Thus, we have, “Tremble with anger or fear, and do not sin; in bed pray with your whole heart.”

The word “Selah” is a musical term meaning pause, crescendo, or musical interlude. It musically separates verse 4 from verse 5. In verse 5, David tells us “Pray about your sacrifices of righteousness and trust in the Lord.”

When was the last time you cried out to God for help?  It’s hard to ask for help because the fear of showing weakness can outweigh the desire to reach out God. But the simple truth is, it’s okay to fall back on God for support and comfort. David sings that in the midst of struggles, or in the middle of your mess, God is right there, waiting for you to invite Him into your trouble or to cry out to Him for help.
