Today’s Big Question: Did Jesus Believe He is the Son of God?

How are you to believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, if Jesus Himself did not accept it?

The Bible shows us that Jesus accepted His deity and, on several occasions, He alluded to it.

Jesus never flat-out said, “I am The Son of God.” But in many instances, He insinuated that He is The Messiah, the Son of God. For instance, when Jesus told the parable of the wicked vineyard tenants (Matthew 21:21-46), it was evident that Jesus had a Messianic self-understanding. Jesus knew He is God’s Son.

Jesus is Accused of Being the Son of God.

When Jesus was arrested, the high priest of the Sanhedrin charged Him, under oath, to tell them “Tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus did not deny it, He said, “Yes, it is as you say.” (Matthew 26: 63)

The Daily Bread email message for Mon & Tue 5/23 & 5/24/2022, says:

Matthew 21:38, 39 – But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ They took him, and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.  (NASB)

When Jesus told the parable of the wicked vineyard tenants, it was evident that Jesus had a Messianic self-understanding. Jesus knew He is God’s Son. When the parable is interpreted in its context, we see the vineyard owner is God, the tenants represent ancient Israel’s priests, and the servants symbolize the prophets. The point is clear: God sent His Son. Otherwise, Jesus would be just one more messenger, one more prophet. No — God sent his Son, and that Son is Jesus.

The Bible, God’s inerrant Word, teaches that Jesus is The Son of God. How could God, the Holy Spirit be wrong? It’s true: Jesus is The Son of God. Trust it, trust Jesus, trust God. Believe.
